Australian punk band The Kids have returned with a track first written in 2016 titled ‘The Family Situation’. The track combines furious drums with distorted guitars and anguished vocal shouts, before the chorus erupts into a surprisingly catchy shout-a-long melody. Towards the end, a guitar solo that wouldn’t sound out of place on a Metallica track erupts out of nowhere. Lyrically, the track is a poignant commentary on teenagers living in destructive, violent homes. The tune is a marked difference from their recent work, with the band explaining that “With the stuff we are writing now and the band we are becoming, we are happy to release this song because it is our last waypoint in our “old” discography. Or maybe even the last hurrah on an old sound”. Be sure to keep an eye out for their next new track. - Dan Peeke
